Retrofit whole house wrap project delivers lower fuel bills for residents

One of our Darlaston homes wrapped in the new timber-framed panels

GreenSquareAccord has transformed 22 homes in Darlaston, thanks to an innovative retrofit project to improve energy efficiency and reduce residents’ fuel bills.

The apartment block on Darlaston Road has been upgraded through the installation of a whole house wrap of timber framed panels, dramatically improving the insulation and appearance of the property. The upgraded properties will also benefit from the installation of solar photovoltaic panels which along with the extra insulation, will help to reduce electricity bills for the residents.

Carl Taylor, Assistant Director of New Business and Growth said: “Energy use in homes accounts for 14% of all UK carbon emissions. By retrofitting this 1970’s building with sustainable panels we have transformed these homes into some of our most energy efficient properties, bringing them to as close to carbon zero as possible. This project demonstrates how we can decarbonise existing homes to ensure their sustainability, whilst helping to tackle fuel poverty for our residents by reducing energy bills.”

The panels for the whole house wrap project have been designed and constructed by GreenSquareAccord’s low carbon, manufacturing facility in Walsall called LoCaL Homes. GreenSquareAccord has a legacy of creating sustainable housing solutions to help tackle climate change and has just been named the Number 1 Sustainable Housing Provider in the UK, in the Housing Digital Top 30 Sustainability Housing Providers list.

The project has been supported thanks to £385,604 funding from the European Regional Development Fund, which helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects to support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
