Canal-side development completes bringing 65 new homes to Dudley

A row of new-build homes at the Canal Street development

Work at a canal-side development in Dudley has completed providing 65 new affordable homes for local people.

Owned by housing provider GreenSquareAccord, the £9m development in Brierley Hill has transformed the site of a former factory into a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 2 and 3 bedroom houses for affordable rent.

Fiona Fell, Regeneration Manager at GreenSquareAccord said: “We are really pleased that our investment into the local community has brought life to a disused industrial site and helped to regenerate the area. These high quality homes are helping to meet regional demand for affordable housing for local people. I’m sure the new residents will be very happy here.”

The new homes were built by the UK’s leading mixed-tenure developer, Countryside, on behalf of GreenSquareAccord.

Adam Daniels, Managing Director, Partnership West & South Midlands, Countryside, commented: “Reaching completion and handover of new homes is the most rewarding part of what we do, to see the impact our work has on families who now call this new community ‘home’. Our mission is to work closely with our partners to understand the local needs and to ensure we build much more than houses – to create sustainable communities where local people can thrive.”

The development represents partnership working with Dudley Council to regenerate the site, which forms part of a wide scale investment into the DY5 enterprise zone around the Waterfront in Brierley Hill.

Work on the development started in December 2018 and continued through lockdown to ensure the much needed homes were ready for the new residents to move in to during May 2021. The development received £2.1m funding support from Homes England.
