Former office site in Bilston transformed into affordable homes

GreenSquareAccord colleagues standing outside our new Bilston housing development

The site of a former office building in Bilston, Wolverhampton has been transformed into affordable homes by housing and social care provider GreenSquareAccord.

The £3m development off Millfields Road in Bilston has created 24 homes, a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, for affordable rent to local people.

The development has been designed and constructed by GreenSquareAccord using timber panels and bathroom pods manufactured by LoCaL Homes, their award winning offsite manufacturing facility in Walsall which specialises in creating high quality, high performance, low carbon housing solutions.

David Loon, Head of Locality – Black Country, West Midlands at GreenSquareAccord said: “We are very proud to deliver this development of much needed affordable homes in Bilston. Our teams have worked really hard to ensure we could complete these homes in a Covid secure environment, supporting our customers to move in without delay. The old office building that was here previously was no longer needed so it’s great for our staff who used to work here see the transformation into new homes.”

The development has been supported by Homes England, receiving funding of £669k from government’s housing accelerator.

Customer Katrina Harper, who has just moved into the development said: “I love my new flat, its massive for a one bedroom home; I can’t wait to decorate it and make it my own. Living here is a great opportunity, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

The development is part of a wider £15.8m investment into the area from GreenSquareAccord to build 143 new affordable homes in Bilston. Other local developments from the housing and social care provider include their Mill Street development which provided 14 compact modular homes, and Stonefield Edge, part of Bilston Urban Village which is due to complete later this year.
