LoCaL Homes installs first kitchen and bathroom pods

A leading offsite housing manufacturer LoCaL Homes, has successfully installed the first of its new kitchen and bathroom pods into its closed timber panel homes.
LoCaL Homes, part of Accord Housing Association, launched its innovative kitchen and bathroom pods earlier this year, and is the first housing association to offer a product like it.
The pods are fully fitted before they leave the LoCaL Homes factory in Walsall, and are then transported to the site ready to be installed into the homes.
The first of the pods have now been delivered and installed at Accord’s development on Mill Street, in Wolverhampton which is part-funded with a £390,600 grant from Homes England.
The development at Mill Street will consist of 14 one bedroom homes, aimed primarily at people under the age of 35 who are in housing need. The pods will also be used for a wide range of affordable homes, including apartments and houses.
Alan Yates, Deputy Chief Executive at Accord said: “Installing the first pods at one of our own developments really takes the LoCaL Homes’ housing solution to a whole new level.
“By manufacturing the fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms at the factory, we have accelerated the house building process at this Wolverhampton development, and it is great to see a higher percentage of our homes being manufactured in a quality controlled factory environment. Going forward we are excited that we will be able to install these pods in more of our developments.”
LoCaL Homes uses the latest modern methods of construction to manufacture high quality, super energy efficient houses in its factory, which can be transported anywhere in the country and then erected in as little as one day.
LoCaL Homes has already developed more than 1,000 homes across the country from Preston to Cornwall. These high quality homes are quicker to build and are much more energy efficient, reducing the running costs for the occupants and reducing the environmental footprint.
