Silver Birches is a residential care home in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, catering for up to 50 frail elderly adults with dementia in ensuite individual rooms.
Comfortable, well-equipped facilities and a dedicated, qualified team of staff mean that individual needs are well-met at Silver Birches. Communal areas include a lounge, dining room and conservatory, all of which contribute to a homely and friendly atmosphere. Hairdressing services are also available on site, with other shops and community services close by.
Silver Birches uses the Eden Alternative, an approach that focuses on improving the ageing experience by engaging residents with plants, animals and children in a variety of activities, from flower arranging to cooking and crafts with local Brownie groups. In a six month trial of Eden at a similar Accord residential home, the number of residents using psychotropic drugs as part of dementia treatment fell from 47% to just 2%.
Respite services are also available for two weeks. Longer can be arranged if necessary.
Many activities are offered within the scheme, with a flexibly structured programme designed to accommodate individual interests and personal hobbies. With a dedicated dementia care manager who works alongside residents and staff, Silver Birches provides attentive, individualised care and support to residents.

Getting a placement
All referrals are made via the Older Adults team at Solihull Council's Health and Social Care Department. Admissions are planned with the service user and their family, carers and associated professionals. Information obtained helps to form an initial care and support plan, which is regularly reviewed and amended. Service users will have their income assessed and those with capital above the government threshold may be required to make a contribution towards care. Please ask your social worker for more information on care funding.
