Bennett House is a purpose-built residential care home for older adults, catering for those with dementia. The scheme houses 45 customers in individual rooms.
Situated in a residential area of Telford, Bennett House is well-equipped and within walking distance of a pharmacy, medical centre, community centre and a pub. Local shopping centres are easily reached by a short bus journey.
Bennett House uses the Eden Alternative, an approach that focuses on improving the ageing experience by engaging customers with plants, animals and children in a variety of activities, from flower arranging to cooking and crafts with local Brownie groups. In a six month trial of Eden, the number of Bennett House customers using psychotropic drugs as part of dementia treatment fell from 47% to just 2%.
Many activities are offered within the scheme, with a flexibly structured programme designed to accommodate individual interests and personal hobbies.
The home has four separate but integral households, one of which offers specialist care for people with mental ill health, including dementia. A centre for day visitors is open four days a week.
With a dedicated dementia care manager who works alongside residents and staff, Bennett House provides attentive, individualised care and support to both residents and day visitors.
