Amber Wood is a Dementia Centre of Excellence based in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. Every aspect of Amber Wood has been specifically designed and built to provide the very best care and support for people with dementia. Our specialist care team delivers personalised, high quality care in line with the Eden Alternative Philosophy. This is an internationally recognised care model that transforms care environments into a home environment. It focuses on person-centred care, promoting engagement and activities to eliminate loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.
The service supports up to 45 adults with dementia across three households, Byrkley, Caldwell and Rangemore. The households are individually decorated to aid orientation and wayfinding; they have a domestic style layout with an open plan kitchen where customers are encouraged to engage in meal preparation and cooking. Each of the households has access to outdoor space and with multiple communal spaces; customers can engage in group activities or pursue their own interests in the smaller communal areas or their own private rooms.
Each household has:
- 15 bedrooms with en suite shower rooms
- An assisted bathroom
- Lounge area
- Dining rooms
- Cinema room
- Garden room
- Access to a courtyard or terrace area
All areas are fitted with an alarm system ensuring 24 hour access to staff should individuals require assistance. We also use a range of technology to enhance the care we deliver and support individuals to be more independent.
Amber Wood has an activities coordinator who plans and coordinates activities and volunteers within the Centre.
In addition to the households Amber Wood has a community hub which is used by both customers and the wider community.
The hub facilities include:
- Reception area
- Events room
- Coffee bar
- Meeting / training space
